The graduate programs offered by the Department of Psychology prepare students for careers in science or professional practice.

MSc – Research and PhD - Research graduates can pursue careers in research or teaching. PsyD graduates can become licensed psychologists. Graduates from our PhD – Research and Intervention programs may choose to pursue careers in any of those fields.

After completing the BSc in Psychology or a BScwith a Major in Psychology, students may be admitted directly to programs that lead to membership in the Ordre des psychologues du Québec:

  • PsyD in Psychology - Clinical
  • PhD in Psychology - Research and Intervention (PhD Psychology - R/I)

Admission to both programs is limited, and excellent marks are required.

Job outlook

To practise as a psychologist, you must hold a doctoral degree (PsyD or PhD R/I) in order to become a member of the Ordre des psychologues du Québec. You can then work in:

  • The healthcare system
  • The social services system
  • The education system
  • Private companies
  • Private clinics
  • Colleges and universities

Psychologists and psychology researchers can also find jobs in innovative fields like:

  • Neuropsychology
  • Cognitive neuroscience
  • Normal and pathological child development
  • Work and organizational psychology
  • Normal and pathological aging
