Training periods and internships

Training periods at the doctoral level (PhD R/I)

Training periods are offered at the University Psychology Clinic (in French) for students enrolled in the PhD in Psychology - Research and Intervention program.

  • The training periods are adapted to the option chosen (clinical neuropsychology or clinical psychology).
  • You have access to a clientele of all ages from children to teens, adults and seniors, presenting different problems (various psychological disorders, acquired or developmental neurological disorders).

These training periods help you prepare for your internship, including in the Consortium d'internat en psychologie clinique et neuropsychologie clinique at the Université de Montréal. You will be given a guide for trainees at the beginning of every year of the training period.

Training periods at the doctoral level (DPsy)

Training periods give students access to a clientele of all ages from children to teens, adults and seniors, presenting different problems. The training periods are distributed throughout the doctoral program and adapted to the clinical option chosen.

Students enrolled in the clinical psychology option of the program will carry out their training periods at the University Psychology Clinic (in French), in the Marie-Victorin Building on the main UdeM campus.

Those enrolled in the Clinical neuropsychology option will carry out their training periods at the Interprofessional Psychosocial Clinic (in French) on the UdeM Laval Campus.

These training periods help you prepare for your internship, including in the Consortium d'internat en psychologie clinique et neuropsychologie clinique at the Université de Montréal. You will be given a guide for trainees at the beginning of every year of the training period.

Internship program

In their 4th year, students who are about to complete their course work and who have submitted their doctoral essays carry out an internship. A total of 1600 hours in clinical psychology and clinical neuropsychology is required. The internship may be done at the Consortium d'internat de l'Université de Montréal, the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC) or in Europe (subject to conditions).

The Université de Montréal Consortium de psychologie clinique et de neuropsychologie clinique

The affiliated members and the Université de Montréal Department of Psychology joined forces to establish this consortium, with the main goal of offering high-calibre training for clinical psychology and clinical neuropsychology students.

The Consortium comprises the Université de Montréal Department of Psychology and 11 institutions that agreed to create a common internship program.

The primary mission of the internship program in clinical psychology and clinical neuropsychology is to prepare future psychologists for a career applying the highest standards of competency in both clinical practice and applied research.
